Malcolm Read - Musical Director

MalcMalcolm started playing at the age of 10 in his hometown of Gillingham, Dorset.  At the age of 16 he joined the British Army, completing 25 years of service as a musician.  Attending The Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall, he played in and conducted Military and Brass Bands as well as small and big Dance Bands.

In 1991 Malcolm left regular service and moved to North Devon to run a careers office for 10 years before retiring in 2000 and working locally until 2010.  During this time he played and conducted local Brass Bands, as well as taking the roll of Musical Director for four local amateur dramatic and operatic societies and conducted some 40 shows!

Malcolm moved to South Wales in 2010, where he played in local Brass Bands up to championship level and conducted a band in the Swansea Valley.

In 2015, Malcolm made his move to the Midlands to join us here at Amington as MD, just 3 weeks before a contest!  He has great ambitions for the band and he works us and himself hard towards the goal.  He looks forward to the future of Amington Band.
